MS Courier Is Cancelled!

Today Microsoft announced that they are canceling their Courier tablet PC, which was designed to compete with Apples New iPad. The double-screen pen and touch device had been eagerly awaited by windows fans who wanted to be able to use it in concert with their other Windows devices.

The problem: Windows 7 just doesn’t cut it as a tablet pc operating system. It’s just is not effective enough compared to Apple’s app-based OS, at least in a small form factor.

Bill Gates previously panned the iPad’s touch-only tablet, noting, “I still think that some mixture of voice, the pen, and a real keyboard- in other words a netbook- will be the mainstream on that.” Gates also originally though the Internet wasn’t going to be a big deal.

Microsoft (MSFT) reported third-quarter earnings Thursday after the bell, but the stock did not rally. In fact, shares of the software behemoth fell 2.77%. This is despite reporting that the company’s profits were up 35% in the first quarter.
At the same time rumors are flying that HP is planning to cancel its hotly anticipated Slate tablet PC offering. Same problem- Windows 7.

Microsoft Courier, RIP.

Louisville Metro Council seeks cure for idleness

Those beloved zanies over at Louisville’s Metro Council are at it again. Concerned that there may be a shortage of restrictions on the freedoms of Derby City’s citizens, the council is studying ways to come up with an “anti-idling rule.” No, this has nothing to do with the plethora of do-nothing bureaucrats out at the JCPS VanHoose Education Center; the Metro councilors are worried that too many of us leave our motors running, while we’re not moving. (Sounds like Bardstown Road on a Saturday night.)

The professional scolds over at Louisville’s Metro Air Pollution Control District (LMAPCD) have written a proposed ordinance that would place restrictions on idling cars and other kinds of machinery in Jefferson County. Mayor Abramson supports the idea, and is looking for a Metro Council member or two to introduce the measure.

Several council members of the council’s Health and Human Needs Committee told Courier-Journal reporter Dan Klepal they think the idea of reducing unnecessary vehicle idling is great, but they aren’t sure the ordinance could be enforced. Committee Chairwoman Mary Woolridge, D-3rd District, said the ordinance should be sent to the city’s health department for public hearings before any action is taken.Lauren Anderson, executive director of LMAPCD, has indicated to the Metro Council that the proposed ordinance is necessary, because Metro Louisville is out of compliance with federal clean-air standards, and that if the ordinance is not passed, LMAPCD will try to get the ever-unpopular vehicle emission testing (VET) reinstated.

The proposed ordinance would outlaw allowing a vehicle to sit idling, while not moving, but would allow for a number of exceptions. Drivers actually stopped in traffic, or waiting for a signal to change, would not be covered. Similarly, drivers would be allowed to wait in a drive-through lane for their Big Macs to be delivered. We’d probably need to exempt TARC busses, cop cars, fire engines, ambulances, taxicabs, garbage trucks, and weed-whackers too. But look for the Good Humor man to fade from the scene.

Folks would be allowed to keep their motors running while “responding to emergency situations” (not defined, but presumably including childbirth and inspecting the carcass of the critter you just ran over, to see what’s for dinner this evening), or when “loading or unloading passengers.” This last exemption specifically does not include waiting in line to pick up your kids from school. If your tykes dally, you’ll just have to freeze/roast, depending upon the Louisville weather (it’s sometimes freeze/roast in the same day).

Conviction of violating the proposed ordinance would require a $100 fine for the first offense, $250 for a second offense within two years, and then $500 for each subsequent offense. Depressed persons opting to commit suicide in their garages would certainly have to think twice before incurring such a financial burden. The proposed law would allow people to let their cars idle to defrost windshields or for other “safety” reasons. Here’s the kicker: it would be left to the discretion of the police officer as to whether it was reasonable for them to idle their cars for heat. Get that? The silly law would leave it up to the cop to decide whether or not you were in violation of the law.

Any freshman law student will tell you that any law that vests such discretion within the caprice of law enforcement officers is clearly unconstitutional on its face. Why not just pass a law making it a crime to drive too fast? No speed limits; just leave it up to the cop to decide whether or not you were driving at excessive speed.

Of course, the “scientists” over at LMAPCD can’t be expected to be aware of all the vagaries of constitutional law. After all, they’re air pollution experts, right? Ms. Lauren Anderson, executive director of LMAPCD is, er, a lawyer. Graduated from U of L’s law school in 1988, after which she worked for a time at the Kentucky Court of Appeals and the Legislative Research Commission. Probably read up on science in her spare time.Ms. Anderson told Klepal that she hopes the council will pass an idling ordinance “within six months.” She said it would be a problem for the agency to wait a year before passing the law. “EPA has this plan, it’s what we told them we would do,” she said. “If we don’t do this, we’ll have to do something else. I don’t want to wait a year to get something on the books.”

While it would certainly be a shame to submit Ms. Anderson, J.D., to the obvious stress involved in waiting to see if the elected representatives of the people live up to the promises she made to the EPA, her threat to bring back the VET exhaust testing program is a pretty transparent bluff. Thanks to Louisville’s Dan Seum and the Republicans in the Kentucky legislature, a stake was driven into the heart of that beast several years ago. There are two chances that it will ever be resurrected: slim and none.

Our Metro Council would do well to continue ignoring the loonies at the EPA (“Carbon dioxide is a pollutant”) and their surrogates over at LMAPCD. It’s O.K. for Mayor Jerry to drink the enviro-whacko Kool Aid (He signed the US Conference of Mayor’s Climate Protection Agreement, promising to reduce the Louisville’s greenhouse gas emissions by 7% below 1990 levels by 2012: Not. Going. To. Happen.), but the council should avoid following these lemmings over the cliff.

The small cash loans have made it easier for the borrowers to get money instantly. As the offered amount is not much big therefore, you will not have to be worried of the delay in the delivery. These loans take just a few hours in the whole processes and the applied amount is delivered within 24 hours of applying.

The reason for delivering the loans amount within 24 hours is that these loans avoid the credit checking practices. No borrower’s credit records are being checked and therefore, there is no ground of wasting time. Along with the no wastage of time there is another good thing about these loans. Because of the no credit checking factor, the bad credit holders too gets permission to get these loans. Hence, all those poor credit records that are allowed in these loans include:

o Defaults

o Arrears

o CCJs

o Late payment

o Skipping of installments

o IVA

o Bankruptcy

In it you will be able to borrow an amount ranging from £100 to £1500 for 14 to 31 days. If you feel that you will not be able to repay the loan in that given duration then it will be better to adjust the repayment date with your payday. As a consequence, the payable amount will be automatically transferred from your bank account to the lender on your payday. Otherwise, for being late you would have been charged with extra monetary fines.

The required qualifications for these loans are that you have to be of 18 years of age or above, earn at least £1,000 per month and being an owner of a valid bank account is quite necessary. Then only your eligibility will be proved and you will be able to borrow the loan amount. So, for getting the small cash loans you have to first be eligible on the required grounds.

Font Basics for Branding your Small Business

There are many components of a brand identity: logo, color palette, font choice, and the Visual Vocabulary. There’s a lot of information available about the use of logos, colors, and Visual Vocabulary, but not much on the effective use of fonts. So, here’s some information on the creative, practical, and technical aspects of fonts.

Font basics

A font is a set of all the letters in the alphabet, designed with similar characteristics. This is also known as a typeface.

Fonts are usually designed to include several style variations. This can include styles like light, regular, bold, semibold, ultra bold, and italic. Some fonts also include “Expert” versions, which are fonts that include fractions and mathematical symbols.

Font families are typically packages of fonts that include all of the different versions of a font. Using fonts with large families will give you a wide range of fonts to use in your materials, for variety and emphasis.

There are many basic classifications of fonts. Four of the most common classes of fonts are:

- Serif fonts, which have little “feet,” called serifs, at the ends of the lines that make up the letters. Some examples of serif fonts include Times, Palatino, and Garamond. These fonts are more traditional, elegant, and old-fashioned.

- Sans-serif fonts don’t have those feet. “Sans serif” means “without serifs.” Arial, Verdana, Tahoma, and Helvetica are some of the most common sans-serif fonts. These fonts are more clean and modern.

- Script fonts are calligraphic or cursive fonts. Brush Script and Nuptial Script are two common script fonts.

- Display fonts are decorative and often used for logos or headlines.

There are other types of fonts as well, including handwriting fonts and all-caps fonts. However, the four listed above are the most common and useful in business communications.

Creative font usage guidelines

Each type of font has certain characteristics that translate into that font’s personality. A font might be serious or light-hearted, traditional or modern, legible or decorative, or any number of other personality traits. The traits of the font that you use in your marketing materials and business communications should reflect and enhance your company’s brand.

Your company should have designated fonts to use in the following situations:

- A logo font, which is typically not one of the fonts that come installed on Windows machines: it should be more unique and interesting. Some logos will have two or three different fonts in them. If this is the case, then consider using one of those fonts as the secondary font as well.

- A secondary font, used for headlines, sub-headlines, taglines, special text such as graphics and captions, and decorative text such as pull quotes, which are the large quotes that are used decoratively in articles and documents. This can be the same font as is used in your logo. This is typically an interesting and unique font as well. This may also be used as the font for your contact information in your stationery, depending on its legibility.

- A tertiary font is optional and may be used when the secondary font is not always legible, for mid-length texts such as pull quotes and contact information.

- A serif text font, for lengthy printed documents. Printed materials are more easily read if they are in serif font rather than sans-serif font.

- A sans-serif font, for shorter printed documents and on-screen use. Text on a computer monitor is easier to read in a sans-serif font than in a serif font.

- A website font, which may be the same font as is used as the main sans-serif text font, depending on how that font translates for online viewing.

All of these fonts should have similar or contrasting characteristics. Choosing fonts with similar characteristics will make your fonts match and create consistency throughout your documents. Choosing fonts with contrasting characteristics will build visual texture and interest into your materials. For example, you could pick all thin, sans-serif fonts such as Arial and Frutiger to create a harmonious, matching suite of fonts. Or you could pick fonts with contrasting characteristics to create greater interest, such as using a serif font like Palatino for the headlines and then using a sans-serif font like Verdana for the text.

Each piece of marketing material or document created should have a maximum of three or four families of fonts on them. (A font family includes all of the bold and italic variations of a particular font, so using bold or italic effects does not count as additional fonts.) Using more than three or four fonts is confusing, and it looks unprofessional.

Practical font usage guidelines

Fonts can require special consideration when you send materials to a professional printer for reproduction, use them on your website, or send Word documents to others. Here are some basics on using fonts and preserving their appearance in these cases.

- In printed materials, it’s easier to read long blocks of copy that is set in a serif font. Sans-serif fonts are usually used in print for short blocks of information, like headlines, pull quotes, or bulleted lists.

- When sending your materials to be professionally printed, make sure to address your desires regarding the use of fonts. You can either include the fonts with the files you send to the printer (which might be considered a copyright license infringement), rasterize your artwork (convert it to pixels, so the font data is no longer needed), or outline your fonts (creating shapes out of the fonts, an option that’s available in most vector art programs such as Adobe Illustrator and Macromedia Freehand), so that they can be printed accurately. Outlining the fonts is the best way to guarantee that your fonts will remain accurate and sharp.

- Online, in websites, emails, and HTML newsletters, sans-serif fonts look the best: they’re clean, clear, and easy to read. There is one other trick to online font use: you have to make sure that you use fonts that will be installed on the computers of people reading your site. Otherwise, your text will appear in the default font selected by their browser, which is often Courier, a very plain font. That limitation does leave you with several fonts to choose from, though, including Verdana, Arial, Tahoma, and Trebuchet MS.

- Serif fonts could also be used on websites; however, it’s best to use them in limited quantities, such as for headlines and subheads. Some fonts that are available to use on the web include Times, Times New Roman, and Georgia.

- Another issue that commonly arises with online fonts is the difficulty in controlling the size and appearance of those fonts. Standard font tags in HTML don’t offer precise sizing control and need to be used several times throughout each HTML document, so making changes can be time-consuming. You can use Cascading Style Sheets, or CSS, to precisely control the exact size of your fonts and to make site-wide font, size, or color changes with one simple alteration.

- In Word Documents, you also want to make sure that the fonts that you use for the text will be available on the recipient’s computer. Good fonts to use are the standard fonts that come installed on PCs, which include Arial, Verdana, Tahoma, Times New Roman, Georgia, Palatino, Courier, and Trebuchet MS.

- In order to insert a small amount of customized text-such as your logo, tagline, or address information-create an image of that information and to place it in the header and footer of the page.

- Another way to preserve the appearance of text is to export your document as a PDF file and send it to the recipient; PDF files embed the fonts into each document so that they can be viewed on any computer and still look right.

Some technical info about font file types

When you purchase fonts to use on your computer, you’ll often be given a choice of buying a Post Script, True Type, or Open Type font. Here is a brief explanation of the characteristics and problems with each of these formats:

- Post Script fonts are considered industry standard and are therefore preferred by professional printers. There is a format of Post Script fonts available for Macintosh computers and another format available for Windows computers; those fonts cannot be shared between Macs and PCs.

- True Type fonts are often found on Windows machines. These fonts do not print as well as Postscript fonts.

- Open Type fonts are the newest type of font. They are cross-platform compatible, but many fonts aren’t yet available in this format.

With this information about the creative, practical, and technical aspects of font usage, we hope that you can make font choices that will enhance your brand.

Beware Of Africans ( Senegal, Liberia, Nigeria,Ethiopia) and Their Money Schemes and Snares

Beware Of Africans (Senegal, Liberia, Nigeria)and Their Money Schemes & Snares

I believe that no other time is most suitable than now, for me to take this opportunity to write to you of Africans and their BIG MONEY MARKETING TRADE SCHEMES. I am currently sick and tired of the erroneous stories that I have been seeing from time to time in my mailbox. Please note that I have absolutely no animosity against any African or any other race. At the end of my article you would be convinced of the different types of people there are on this earth, the extent a person would go to for MONEY, even mentioning God’s name amongst all those lies without any remorse. I would include some personal examples of e- mails I received.

I just cannot understand why people do these things. I want to say I did not get caught with any of these scheming e-mailers. The first time I got one of those emails I must be honest and say that my heart did went out, as any normal human being would after reading and trying to digest such sad stories.

Receiving email after email reading more heart rending plights you automatically would try to help. But then it starts to get queerer and then money shows up itself. E.g. you are asked to help fund them in some way either for food/raiment. I mean about 60% of Africa is poor and hearing about people who in a refugee camp and doesn’t have food to eat etc, would surely break your heart.

What I realized with my first experience was that I made a mistake replying to the first email but I just didn’t want to be harsh and turn away from even hearing someone’s cry.

I wish very much that some how God would convict these people and help them to stop their filthy lies and turn away from their evil ways. God said in his word that money is the ROOT OF ALL EVIL. I have seen that displayed so many times people can do imaginable things to get fame and wealth. Schemers remember that you are giving your country a bad reputation and know one would want to issue any help to you. Also sometime in your life you would really need someone to display kindness to you and I am afraid to say that you maybe shunned.

I guess that you are completely unaware that you all can be goggled and search through various search engines or is it that you know and just don’t care. Maybe this hoax’s has been so successful over the years that you all think that everybody just would jump and send you money without launching an investigation.

WEBSITES YOU CAN FIND THESE AFRICAN SCHEMERS ON

Personal Experiences

I am just sick and tired of receiving emails from Africa, various parts such as; Nigeria, Senegal, Ethiopia etc. The first one I ever received was from Ms. Jane Mpka. The first e- mail from her was that she wanted to make friends with me and that she is living in a refugee camp in Senegal Africa. Right away I responded to the e- mail “saying hello and I hope all is well etc”.

The next day I received a letter in the form of an email stating that she is having such a horrible time at the camp and that she is seeking my help. That evening when I got home I told my uncle about it and he said he received a mail just so, when I went to see it was the same exact mail she had sent me. I started to wonder how she got our emails and how is it that she trust me and wants my help without ever meeting or seeing me.

Think about it this way if u trust someone to help you, wouldn’t you wait and see if that person would help you instead of rushing off to different people at the same time. I said to myself something is up so I played the game. See the following email. Quote on quote just as she sends it to me I just copied and pasted it.

I don’t have any relatives now whom I can go to all my relatives ran away in the middle of the war the only person i have now is Rev. Christopher John who is the pastor of the (Christ for all Churches) here in the refugee he has been very nice to me since i came here but am not living with him rather am leaving in the women’s hostel because the refugee have two hostels one for men the other for women.

As a refugee here i don’t have any right or privilege to any thing be it money or whatever because it is against the law of this country.
I want to go back to my studies because I only attended my first year before the tragic incident that lead to my been in this situation now took place. Please listen to this, I have my late father’s Statement of Account and Death Certificate here with me which I will send to you later, because when he was alive he deposited some amount of money in a leading bank in Europe which he used my name as the next of kin, the amount in question is $4.7M (Four Million seven Hundred Thousand Dollars).
So I will like you to help me transfer this money to your account and from it you can send me some money for me to get my travelling documents and air ticket to come over to meet with you.
So in the light of above I will like you to keep it to yourself and don’t tell it to anyone for I am afraid of loosing my life and the money if people get to know about it. Remember am giving you all this information due to the trust I deposed on you. I like honest and understanding people, truthful and a man of vision, truth and hardworking. My favourite language is English but our language is French but I speak English very fluently. Meanwhile I will like you to call me, like I said I have a Lot to tell you. Have a nice day and think about me.

Dearest ,
I am more than happy in your reply to my mail. How are you this morning? How was your night? Hope fine. Mine is a little bit cold over here in Dakar Senegal. In this camp we are only allowed to go out from the camp only on Mondays and Fridays of the weeks. It’s just like one staying in the prison and i hope by Gods grace i will come out here soon. i don’t have any relatives now whom i can go to all my relatives ran away in the middle of the war, the only person i have now is (Rev.Joachim Diouf ) who is the pastor of the (St Peter’s Catholic Parish) here in the camp he has been very nice to me since i came here but i am not living with him rather i am leaving in the women’s hostel because the camp have two hostels, one for men the other for women.

The Pastors Tel number is (+221-76-493-35-37) if you call and tell him that you want to speak with me, he will send for me in the hostel. As a refugee here i don’t have any right or privilege to any thing be it money or whatever because it is against the law of this country.I want to go back to my studies because i only attended my first year before the traggic incident that lead to my being in this situation now took place, Please listen to this(it’s a secret, even the Reverend don’t know about it),i have my late father’s statement of account and his death certificate here with me which i will send to you latter, because when he was alive he deposited some amount of money in one of the leading bank which he used my name as the next of kin, the amount in question is $2.7(Two Million Seven Hundred Thousand US Dollars). So i will like you to help me transfer this money to your account and from it you will send some money for me to get my travelling documents and air ticket to come over to meet with you. I kept this secret to people in the camp here .So in the light of above i will like you to keep it to yourself and don’t tell it to anyone for i am afraid of loosing my life and the money if people gets to know about it. Remember i am giving you all this information due to the trust i deposed on you. I like honest and understanding people, truthful and a person of vision, truth and hardworking .My favourite language is English but our language is French but i speak English very fluently. Meanwhile i will like you to call me like i said i have a lotted to tell you. Have a nice day and think about me. Waiting to hear from you soonest.

Yours in love,

Nafi

Subject: All about ME/I Need Your Help
To: danina.1@hotmail.com

 Dear,
Thanks for your reply to my mail. I am writing this mail to you with tears and sorrow from my heart, Life has ways of changing your plans even if you are not ready for the change.

My name is Anita Samuel  Makki , my mother was Ethiopian while my father was a Liberian. I took after my mother in every physical structure. Educationally, I am Medical student, yet to complete my University program and I was only doing my second year when the unexpected happened and I lost my parents in the hands of Liberian Government Secret Police. From this point my life and my career got scatted until now that I have decided to pick my bits and pieces to move forward.

Actually the story of my father and Liberia Government will make a whole book but time will not permit me to say it all here but briefly I want to let you know that my father was a diamond stone dealer but the Government caused him of illegitimate diamond stone dealings with the rebels. The government seized his license, seal his personal bank accounts in Liberia and kidnapped my mother and which up till now; I do not know if she is dead or still a life somewhere. This is the story behind my living the country to Senegal where I am at present seeking refuge in the Church and living a low profile life in order to protect myself.

Please I decided to write you because I have no other alternative. Since after the death of my father in the hands of Liberian Government Secret Police I have been in a very big difficulty of how to safeguard the money that my father left for me in his foreign account before his death because the money is a huge amount of $7.8 million dollars presently in a bank. I am afraid I don’t know how and where to start about it. I have a dream of completing my education there in your country and invest all my late father’s funds there in your country.I will compensate you reasonably with 10% of the total money and 5% for any expenses that might come up in this transfer.

As regards the security of my life there is no other option left for me to seek for outside cooperation than through this medium and I would have loved to come to meet you but to be very honest with you, I do not have the financial means to sponsor myself at the moment. I proposed you to come if it is possible for you as well. Please if you can help me to stand for me as my foreign partner so that the bank can transfer this money to your account in your country so that after the transfer you will help me to come out of this place to come and meet with you in your country to start a better life with you.

I am appealing to you to be my guardian in this project to receive the fund into your account before we meet or if possible you can sponsor me to come over before the bank transfer the fund I will also like it, Please if you know that you can help me without  betraying me after the transfer of my money into your account in your country try to reply me urgently as I will explain more to you and we can discuss fully and God will always bless you for your help which I know you shall never regret.

I have been very much afraid to disclose this issue to strangers but I can not keep silence forever due my sufferings has gotten to an extent I can not even eat 3 square meals a day. Therefore the journey to survive is defendant on outside help so it would be extremely difficult to plan these arrangements alone without involving somebody who is business oriented. Conclusively I will like to know if you will be available to cooperate with me in this project. I hereby enclosed with my late father’s WILL and I have attached my photo here for you to know what I look like .I am open to any question.

Thank you for your attention.

Yours sincerely.

Anita

Website Design For Non-Professionals – You Can Create An Attractive, Functional Website

You’re not a professional website designer and you certainly are not well versed in HTML, PHP, Ajax or javascript but you can design and build an attractive, functional website by simply paying attention to some important details.

Let me start from the first consideration you should make about overall design. Your goals are to create a balance between the attractiveness of your site, how user friendly it will be and how quickly your website loads.

Choosing Your Website Platform:

There are a number of possibilities to choose a platform for your website, to numerous too list in this article. However, I will say that many free website building tools can be found on the internet by checking with the major search engines. You will find many on line sites as well as free standing programs (including open source) that you can use. Another possibility would be to use a program like Adobe Dreamweaver to construct your site (the caveat here is that there is a definite learning curve using Dreamweaver). You may also opt to use a blogging site such as Blogger.com or WordPress as your platform since the difference between a website and a blog has become hard to distinguish. I personally like WordPress since I use it for my website wesavemoney4u.com partly because it is easy to use, and, there are many ways to enhance the look and functionality of a website with the hundreds of plug-ins and widgets that are available.

Navigation:

Simple, easy to see and use menu bars are the key. Whether your “nav bar” is on the side or you decide to use menus tabs at the top of the page they should be easy to read and navigate. I prefer menu tabs at the top of the page because they will be the first thing a visitor will see.

Clean Layout:

Do not be afraid to use white space to keep your site clean and spacious. A lot of websites cram so much text and graphics into their page the visitor can become somewhat overwhelmed. Of course, many of these sites are professionally designed and because of the sheer volume of product a company has to offer they cover the page with tons of graphics and long pages. Unless you deal with a volume of products like Amazon.com, keep it simple.

Keep Flash scripts, animated GIFs to a minimum:

Sure they look great – sometimes – but they slow down the load time of your page. Concentrate on quality content instead. Once you get past the flashy graphics your visitor will want more than pretty pictures to keep them at your site anyway. Scrolling text and auto loading sound are usually a distraction as well.

Using GIF and JPEG:

Use JPEG for scanned pictures and photographs; use GIF for computer generated graphics like buttons or animation. GIF is also used when a transparent background is desired.

Content Is King:

Your content is the single most important element for your website because if done well it will keep visitors at your website. It is also very important for search engine optimization and Google page rank. Remember to use keywords in your text but make sure that you don’t stuff the text with an inordinate amount of keywords. For one thing, it will make your content look and read unnatural and search engines can spot keyword stuffing easily. Use the same keyword only once or twice every 300 words to be safe.

Additional Do’s and Don’ts:

Don’t annoy your visitors with pop-up windows.

Don’t open internal links in a new window. It is annoying to have several windows open and no way to navigate back.

Don’t type more than a few words in all capitals. They lose their effectiveness if over done.

Don’t distract your visitors with blinking or scrolling text. You know how annoying some of those blinking ads are on the internet – why use them?

Do make sure to include a menu on all pages. Breadcrumbs are useful too.

Do use contrasting colors to make test easy to read.

Do make the text large enough to read. I use 14 point at my website to help accommodate people with less than perfect eyesight.

Do use descriptive link text. Don’t just use click here. For example, “To see my jokes page click here.” is better.

Lastly I will leave you with a list of fonts that are ‘web’ safe and should appear correctly on all browsers. (Stay away from that script font even though it looks great).

How to Install a New Font

Times New Roman, Courier, Arial, Comic Sans MS, Courier New, Bookman Old Style, etc. are the common font styles that are found in any word processing software. Times New Roman is mostly used for research papers that are written in the MLA and APA styles. Courier New, Arial, Garamond are used in grade school, high school research papers and some websites today. Due to the dynamic world we live in, a lot of people want to use new fonts for uniqueness and style especially in designing their web sites or web pages. An example of a new font is the Harry Potter font loved by Harry Potter addicts. If a person wants to learn how to install a new font, there are a lot of resources found on the Web that they can check out.

There are many fonts that you can download off of the internet. Once the person has picked the font that captured his/her interest, the next thing to research about is how to install the new font in the laptop or the PC. Of course, using search engines such as Google and Yahoo will lead you to various sites offering instructions on how to install a new font.

If Microsoft Windows is your operating system, you will find it easy to install new fonts. Most of the font packages that can be downloaded from the Internet are in .zip files. The files are compressed to have a faster download rate. Unzipped the file first prior to installation.

The steps to install a new font are listed below:

1. All open Windows programs or applications must be closed first.

2. Next is to double click on the Control Panel and then select Appearances and Themes.

3. Click on See Also, then Choose Fonts. If a folder tree appears, however, click Folders, and then once See Also appears, choose the category Fonts.

4. Under the File menu, you will see the option: Install New Font. Select that option.
5. Once that option is selected, you will be asked to select a drive.

6. Look in the Folders list and select (double-click) the folder that holds the new fonts that you desire to add.

7. Select the font you have decided to add found in the Fonts List, and once selected, click OK.

Additional Information:

If you have decided to add more than one font, press the CTRL key and hold it down, afterwards then click on al the fonts you want added to your PC. You can also drag the fonts from another location into the Fonts folder to install the new font faster.

If you are planning to use another computer within your Local Area Network (e.g. your PC is malfunctioning so you decided to use the PC of your colleague who is seated beside you) the new fonts you have installed will not appear in your colleague’s PC. You can install the new font into the said PC if you really need to use that specific font.

A Few Important Advantages of Electronic Book Readers

There are many advantages of electronic book readers or eBook readers that are causing them to grow rapidly in popularity.  Many people are enjoying the benefits of these electronic readers, and for good reasons.  The busy lifestyle we all lead today leaves little time for many of life’s simple pleasures, but these eBook readers save users plenty of time as well as money.   Most of us haven’t been to a bookstore or a library in years because most of the information we need is available on the Internet, but many of us still enjoy reading a book for the simple enjoyment it brings.

For many people, a traditional book will always be at the top of their list of preferences.  For these people the pleasure of reading a book doesn’t feel complete unless they are able to smell the paper and ink and look at the different notes that have been added to the margins over the years.  Other people tend to stay away from too much reading on the Internet because of the eye strain that can be experienced from staring at digital text for long periods of time.  Even these people can now enjoy reading digital books, thanks to the development of electronic book readers. These are a few of the reasons that manufacturers launched electronic readers in the first place.

One of the advantages of electronic book readers is the ability to read electronic books and still get the feeling you are reading a page from a book while reducing the risk of eye strain.  These little devices have made reading eBooks a very pleasurable experience for the times that reading a regular book just isn’t practical or possible.  Any type of digital content can be loaded onto an eBook reader and read as if it were an actual paper book.

There are a number of advantages of electronic book readers.  Here are three of the main advantages of using them:

1.         The majority of today’s eBook readers have a huge memory capacity built into the device.  Further, additional memory can be added with a regular SD card.  This makes it possible to carry nearly 20 books on a device at one time.  Think about how this will lighten your load the next time you pack for a long trip.

2.         There are many different models available that make it possible to find one that meets your needs precisely.  Some of the advantages of electronic book readers that people really enjoy are the added features like adjustable backgrounds and fonts, page turning, and bookmarking.  Adjustments can be easily made depending on the light conditions that are available.

3.         Buying an eBook is so much easier than buying a traditional book.  You simply visit an online bookstore and instantly download a copy to your computer or eBook reader.  You won’t have to hold a stack of heavy books while you wait in line at the bookstore ever again.  Everything is literally a simple mouse click away.

As you can see, the advantages of electronic book readers are many.  Reading books has a bright future indeed!
